\u2018Twas the night before clinical surveillance kicked in,
\nwhen all through the house\u2026 (Hospital that is)<\/p>\n

Not a creature was stirring\u2026ok, maybe a mouse.<\/p>\n

IHI, TJC, and APSF initiatives were hung on every website all year,<\/p>\n

In hopes that a real-time surveillance solution soon would be here.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

The patients were nestled all snug in their beds,<\/p>\n

While visions of vigilance danced in their heads.<\/p>\n

The C-suite in their suits, and I in my scrubs,<\/p>\n

Had racked our brains in meetings and hubs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

When outside the hospital there arose such a clatter,<\/p>\n

I sprang from my work-station to see what was the matter.<\/p>\n

Away to the window I flew like a flash,<\/p>\n

Tore open the shutters and held on to my cash.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow<\/p>\n

Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.<\/p>\n

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,<\/p>\n

But a real-time patient-safety solution, carried by reps dressed like reindeer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

With a spry young driver, so lively and quick,<\/p>\n

What would he sell me? What is his shtick?<\/p>\n

More rapid than eagles his answers they came,<\/p>\n

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

“Now, missed alarms! Now, missed alerts! Now, compromised patients in bed!<\/p>\n

On, interruptions! On, gaps! On frustration and dread!<\/p>\n

To the top of the roof! To the top of the wall!<\/p>\n

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

And then, in a twinkling, I asked him for proof<\/p>\n

A unified platform? This must be a spoof.<\/p>\n

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,<\/p>\n

Down the chimney Bernoulli Healthcare came with a bound.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

He was dressed in confidence, from his head to his foot,<\/p>\n

His answer promised predictive trends and meaningful alarm through-put.<\/p>\n

A bundle of workflows he had flung on his back,<\/p>\n

And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

His eyes-how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!<\/p>\n

Consecutive, combined, sustained algorithms he boasted; a data confection topped with a cherry!<\/p>\n

Integrated with the EHR tied up like a bow,<\/p>\n

A phased in approach\u2013 tis the season to toss out all woes.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

National use-models in place did he bequeath,<\/p>\n

The excitement\u2026 it encircled his head like a wreath.<\/p>\n

He had a broad face and a little round belly,<\/p>\n

That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

He was eager and bright, a right jolly old elf,<\/p>\n

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!<\/p>\n

Real-time analytics, agnostic device integration – all on the same thread,<\/p>\n

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,<\/p>\n

Bringing in the clinical and support teams\u2026a standard, not a perk.<\/p>\n

And shaking the hand of the customer he chose,<\/p>\n

Giving a nod to advancing patient safety, together they rose!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>
\n

He sprang to his feet, to his team gave a whistle,<\/p>\n

From afar they all gathered like the down of a thistle.<\/p>\n

But I heard him exclaim, \u2018ere he drove out of sight,<\/p>\n

“Safe patient care to all, and to all a good-night!”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>
