Since coming to Bernoulli about 18 months ago, I have developed a whole new perspective on how the landscape of various vendor solutions fit together. Tim and I are both fans of studying evolving markets and on many occasions, we have compared notes about how we view market segmentation for vendors that extend device connectivity and provide complementary solutions that utilize device data. Over the years we have had some interesting conversations about how we see various aspects of device data-driven solutions evolving. One thing that we both agree on is the concept of a whole product solution. Tim does a great job of explaining that here from this post, which was recently updated from the original over two years ago.

But First, A Little Bit of History About Me…

One interesting aspect of my role at Bernoulli is developing complementary partnerships that together create more complete and compelling solutions for our customers. For me personally, Bernoulli is really at the intersection of the last three companies I have worked for and is what attracted me to the company….

First, medical device integration has evolved considerably in the last 5 years and I view MDI as one of the foundational capabilities that enables clinical surveillance.

Second, the ability to manage and mitigate device alarms is a key aspect of surveillance and in fact, without addressing the classic alarm fatigue problem, hospitals cannot easily get around to implementing clinical surveillance. Hospitals do not need more alarms or alerts – they need the right actionable alarms.

Lastly, when surveillance software detects a deteriorating patient condition, one that by definition requires immediate clinical intervention, a clinician (or maybe the entire care team) needs notification. On an increasing basis, healthcare organizations are adopting clinical communications and collaboration (CC&C) solutions that provide the means for clinicians to get notified and collaborate in response to these critical notifications. For surveillance-based alerts we often refer to these as the ‘friendly tap on the shoulder’.

Getting back to the webinar…

I am excited to have this chat with Tim because I see a lot of value in clinical surveillance but at the same time, I also see quite a bit of confusion in the market. Tim always does a good job of providing early and ongoing market intelligence with the goal of educating the market. His blog post referenced above that defines clinical surveillance is a great example.

The goal of our June 26th live webinar to help various clinical and IT audiences learn about clinical surveillance by showing how multiple solutions and technologies can be combined in a complementary manner to facilitate clinical surveillance. We will also discuss the role of MDI/high-fidelity data (what does that even mean?!), utilizing data from the EHR, how advanced rules and analytics fit in, and issues related to implementing a clinical surveillance solution. I look forward to this time with you.

P.S.
